Note from the Coordinator’s Desk /
April 2010
Hello
Everyone,
New computer
classes start Monday, April 5th. Sign-up deadline is Noon on Thursday,
April 1st. We’re offering several topics including “Selling on EBay”,
“Microsoft Review”, and a new hands-on class called “Troubleshoot a PC”.
Both the calendar and class descriptions are posted on this site.
Another class
we’re offering is “Web Design”. Web Design is an intense three-part
class; four weeks at Level I, four weeks at Level II, then 4 more weeks
in an instructor-led lab, where you get to work on your own web site
while the instructor’s there to help. You’ll need to be computer-savvy
and committed to take this class!
Stained Glass
started last week. It’ll go for six weeks total.
We also have
Interest Lists for Self Defense, Archery, CPR, Golf, Pottery, and Basic
or Advanced Motorcycle Safety. Archery is almost set up but there’s
still time to join! I’m also working on CPR and Self Defense. Golf and
Motorcycle Safety will happen once it gets good and warm. For Pottery, I
need to see what sort of interest there is. If there’s enough, I’ve got
a line on a place to have class.
If you’ve
used ICD before, you can sign an Interest List or register for classes
by stopping by, calling, or emailing (stacey.icdlocal310@mchsi.com). If you’re new to ICD, you’ll need
to stop by in person.
ICD also
offers on-line learning. Over 2200 courses are available. You can use
ICD’s Open Lab or learn on your own computer, in the privacy of your own
home, at whatever hour you wish.
Due to the
extreme popularity of ICD’s Tuition Assistance program, it’s currently
full or “closed” for the rest of this calendar year.
Remember,
we’re here for you. What are
you interested in? Let me know
and I’ll see what we can do!
Contact me if
you have questions about
anything.
LET ICD HELP YOU REACH YOUR GOALS!

ICD SUMMER CLASS INFO
MOTORCYCLE SAFETY
BASIC
·
All Basic classes
are offered on weekends only. Fri, 4-9pm, in the classroom. Sat,
8am-3:30pm, driving. Sun is 8-11:30am, testing.
·
Tests include a
written, multiple choice knowledge test and a driving/skills test.
·
DMACC administers
the Basic Rider Course for the State of Iowa. Upon completion of the
course, students will be required to take the DOT written test at the
Driver’s License Station. Skills test may or may not be waived.
·
DMACC provides
everything including motorcycles, helmets and gloves. YOU MUST DRESS
APPROPRIATELY. This means wearing sturdy trousers or jeans, long-sleeved
shirt or jacket, and over-the-ankle footwear.
·
Classes are offered
every weekend from April thru October, rain or shine.
·
Motorcycle Safety
is different from the usual ‘5-student’ minimum in ICD. It’s done on an
individual basis. Call me when you know what weekend you’d like to
attend and I’ll try to get you in. Be sure about the date because if you
have to cancel with less than 10 days notice, ICD gets charged anyway
and we’re only paying one time, per person (barring a true emergency
situation, decided on a case-by-case basis).
EXPERIENCED RIDER
·
Experienced class
is 5 hours of driving. No classroom.
·
Students must
provide their own motorcycles
·
Must have proof of
Motorcycle license and insurance
·
YOU MUST DRESS
APPROPRIATELY. This means wearing sturdy trousers or jeans, long-sleeved
shirt or jacket, over-the-ankle footwear, and full-fingered gloves.
Also, you must bring/wear a helmet that meets DOT standards, eye
protection and full-fingered gloves.
·
Classes are offered
on these Sundays. Call me when you know what Sunday you’d like to attend
and I’ll try to get you in. Be sure about the date because if you have
to cancel with less than 10 days notice, ICD gets charged anyway and
we’re only paying one time, per person (barring a true emergency
situation, decided on a case-by-case basis).

located at 11200 NW Towner Drive, which is just off 141 in Grimes. Call
or email for directions if you need them.
·
We’ll group
students/classes by shift and as ‘Beginner’ or ‘Experienced’. You decide
which one you are.
·
Classes will go for
50 minutes each, three weeks in a row, on your mid-week off-days.
·
Beaver Creek
provides everything. You don’t need your own clubs.
·
There is a
5-student minimum and a 10-student maximum, per class.
POTTERY
This class in still in the
‘investigation’ stage, if you will. Someone expressed interest, so I’m
researching how and where we might offer this class. I also need to
determine the interest level. If we get at least 5 students, I’ll look
further into how we might offer it.
SELF DEFENSE
This class is also in the
‘investigation’ stage, however, it seems I won’t have to wonder about
the interest level! Lots of folks have signed up. I’ll notify you once
the committee and I determine how classes will be set up.
CPR
I’ve got an instructor. Once we
divide the interest list by shifts and number of students, I’ll let you
know what the arrangements are. I can tell you that you will complete
this class in one, 3-4 hour session, whether it be morning,
afternoon, or evening.
ARCHERY
Classes will be held at Archery
Field and Sports, 3725 NE 56th Street, Altoona. Their web
site is archeryfield.com, if you want to take a look. All classes are
